The Waterfall, with its jump of 143m, is the highest in Europe; it is fed by the Toce river, forming on the plain of Riale from the confluence of the streams Hosand, Gries, Rhoni. On the top, the wooden balcony stretched out above the water jump is a fantastic observation point. As the river is diverted to be used for hydroelectric power, the falls can be seen only on certain days and at certain times during the summer The Toce Waterfall has a historical value and was visited and loved by many famous visitors such as Richard Wagner, Gabriele D’Annunzio, Queen Margaret, King Vittorio Emanuele III, Giosuè Carducci and Abbot Antonio Stoppani, who left rave descriptions of what was already regarded as the most spectacular waterfall in the Alps.
