Lake D'Avino is located in a basin at the foot of the eastern slope of Mount Leone. Originally it was a natural alpine lake, later transformed into an artificial reservoir for the production of electricity.
The name probably derives from "lago d'arvina", meaning "ruin", referring to the vast surrounding detrital slope and was then changed into "divine" or "wine".
After the grassy clearing of Pian Cucco a steep gully leads to the floor below the dam, from whose wall you can finally admire the spectacle of Monte Leone's buttresses reflected in the lake.
